What is a Yodel?

The yodel is Yahoo!'s catchy trademark that is part song and part celebration shout. It’s Yahoo!'s way of expressing itself and having a little fun. The Yahoo! yodel was created in 1996 by a yodeling cowboy named Wylie Guftason from Montana. His voice has become synonymous with the Yahoo! brand and remains one of Yahoo!'s most recognisable and beloved brand assets to this day. Now, we gave the yodel back to the people – to you – to modify, mix and make your own in the Yahoo! Yodel Studio.

What does platinum status mean?

Videos with the most votes will be eligible for platinum status. Platinum yodels will be featured on the Yahoo! Homepage and potentially in the ongoing Yahoo! advertising campaign.

How do I win platinum status?

The three yodels with the most views (each in the US, United Kingdom and India) will compete head–to–head for votes during a week long competition. The yodels with the most votes on November 15th will be eligible for platinum status.

Do I win anything when I get platinum status?

You win a spot on the Internet’s largest stage, the Yahoo! Homepage. Your yodel will be immortalised as the yodel heard by millions of people around the world. Additionally, your yodel may be featured in a Yahoo! advertising campaign.

How many videos will be platinum?

Three lucky, talented yodelers will go platinum around the world. There will be one platinum yodeler each in the US, United Kingdom and India.
